The price of memories
September 24th, 2007
The love of my life used to work with a chap called Stan.
Stan was a passionate supporter of Arsenal. And then Stan died, but had his remains buried at Highbury.
A great resting place for someone who loved the beautiful game.
However, the morons in charge of these things, decided to move their grounds. So whilst they happily declare that the new grounds is making them even more money (and I’d point out, it’s a sport, not a business) poor Stan’s resting place is rapidly being turned into yuppie flats.

As an Arsenal fan (and one ready to defend my club almost to the death) I should point out that the pitch at the old stadium had been relayed many, many times over the years. Any ashes from loved ones would have gone a very long time ago. Is that your point or are you concerned about the business nature of sport these days?

Well, everyone knows money has long removed any sportsmanship from any game where someone can be a professional.
Look at Shearer a few years ago, when his side played against Stevenage. Almost didn’t win, and he decided rather than say “you know, for a load of plumbers who only do this for fun, they gave it their all”, to complain about the ball. This was exactly the same ball he was endorsing at the time.
Personally I’d look at it more like this:
imagine it was your loved one. Whether the turf is replaced or not, you know that in one way or another they are at the home end. Well, how does that work when they move it?
