Damnation

As an atheist, I find the whole concept of gods easy to categorise. They go in the box with the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy.

However, there is a little part of me that hopes Mr Van Dyk has discovered that I’m wrong, and he’s now having unpleasant and difficult conversations about his actions.

Dyk by name.

Television hell

DigitalSpy

“The BBC has greenlit five new comedy drama pilots for transmission this autumn on BBC One.

The five shows are:

Magnolia: “A warm and slightly eccentric comedy about a group of painters and decorators trying to make a living for some very odd clients.” Written by Dave Spikey (co-writer and co-star of Phoenix Nights).

Aftersun:: “Tells the story of two couples who meet on holiday – young lovers engaged after 72 hours and parents who are left alone for the first time in 20 years after their kids have flown the coop; will both couples survive the holiday?”

Angel Cake: “A gifted cake-maker, living on a grimy estate, bakes a batch of buns which mould themselves into the image of the Virgin Mary whilst baking. Miracles happen - or do they? One thing’s for sure, Elaine’s life will never be the same again.”

Slings & Arrows: “An intellectually frustrated dry cleaner, played by Lenny Henry, finds life and love at an OU English Literature course.”

Housekeeping: “A darkly comic study of suburban family life told through the eyes of Raymond, a househusband going through divorce and forced to turn his house into a brothel in order to keep hold of the property.”

Holy mother of god. Not exactly “My Name is Earl” and “Two and a half Men”, are they?

I’m surprised that Auntie isn’t just reshowing “Come Back Mrs Noah”

Free tea

999.

As a brief aside, I’ve only worked for two companies which spontaneously performed minor acts of reward to their staff - one made huge redundancies a couple of months later, and my present/previous employer (*) has decided to put the 10p a cup vending machines on “free” whilst outsourcing over 100 people. The availability of free drinks tends indicate something is wrong elsewhere.

(*) I’ve worked for my previous employer, quit, went back as a contractor, was taken on permanently, and then outsourced. So although I’m no longer employed by them, I still work for them. Odd world, eh?
